Operated by a not-for-profit board, Food Starter focuses on helping early-stage food processors commercialize and scale the development of their food products. Food Starter helps motivated entrepreneurs to build great food businesses!
Launched in 2015, Food Starter is the culmination of many years of hard work. Starting with a successful 2007 pilot project that helped to launch more than 25 food businesses, learning and insights were translated into a detailed plan to open Food Starter.
With a projected ‘open for business’ date of mid-autumn 2015, Food Starter supports early stage food start-ups so that they can become sustainable job creators.
Our core program will admit 40 businesses per year into a 3-stage training and product development system designed to mentor entrepreneurs as they enter the food manufacturing industry.
Professionally led training and programming, access to affordable, provincially inspected, shared food production and packaging facilities make Food Starter unique.
