Entrepreneurial Skills Series – Session 1: Financing Growth

January 19, 2018 marked Food Starter’s first Entrepreneurial Skills Series Round Table session. This event brought 32 Food Starter alumni and business experts to Longo’s Leaside for a half-day of face-to-face discussion, problem-solving, and networking. Of course, there was food. Breakfast and lunch kept us fueled.

Focusing on the theme of Financing Growth, experts from RBCMNPWhitecap Venture Partners, and Maple Leaf Angels spoke to rotating groups of Food Starter clients.

We’d like to thank

  • Jane Henderson and Darlene Trimm of RBC for their tips on what banks need and look for from entrepreneurs
  • Prantha Ramesh of Maple Leaf Angels for covering the topic of early-stage angel investors
  • Sean Crewe, Sean Moorfield, Divyan Panchal, and Tanner MacDonald from MNP for sharing their expertise on such wide-ranging topics as outsourcing, picking production partners, getting the most of your accounting resources, and best accounting practices.
  • Shayn Diamond of Whitecap Venture Partners for discussing early-stage venture capital fund investing.
“Loved networking with my fellow Food Starter business leaders and exchanging experiences about sales channels and partnership in Toronto’s food scene. So great to have access to this community of engaged and resourceful entrepreneurs at Food Starter. Looking forward to many more of these kind of events” Annabel, Tea Rebellion

What’s Next?

Our plan is to continue the Entrepreneurial Skills Series. Merchandising, Retail, Digital Marketing, Storytelling, and Inventory are just a few of the topics we’re working on. Got an idea for a round table topics you’d like us to cover? Send your ideas to [email protected]
